Naturtejo Geopark
Listed by UNESCO — European Global Network of Geoparks —, the Naturtejo Geopark is an extraordinary proof of how 500 million years ago the sea dominated Castelo Branco, Idanha-a-Nova, Nisa, Oleiros, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha de Ródão. It’s the fossils that show with an impressive detail the daily life of fantastic animals extinct a long time ago!
The waters flowing now in the rivers unveil a very ancient landscape, made of wide plains and deep valleys, opening mountains with curious shapes. There are also rocks folded like paper sheets, eternal and imperial, defying time.
