Climate
Centro de Portugal covers a tremendously diversified area displaying different weather behaviours that are influenced by relief, altitude and sea proximity.
Winters are cold and rainy in the hinterland and in the zones next to the Spanish border. On Portugal’s highest spot, Serra da Estrela (1991 m high), it snows regularly. On the coast, winters are milder and more humid with higher temperatures.
Summers are hot and dry, reaching very high temperatures in the hinterland. On the coast, heat is moderate.
Average values of minimum air temperature vary from 2ºC in the mountain zones and 12ºC in the Algarve.
During summer average values of maximum air temperature vary from 16ºC in Serra da Estrela and 32-34ºC in the hinterland of Centro and Alentejo regions.
