Granja de São Pedro awarded by Birdlife International
Granja de São Pedro, in Alcafozes, Idanha-a-Nova, was awarded by Birdlife International for being considered a place rich in bird species, which is a major advantage for Geopark Naturtejo.
Biodiversity of the existing fauna in this biological farm with 50 identified bird species –among them 5 threatened species – is the result of the policy of valuing natural heritage pursued by Naturtejo.
The evaluation carried out by the Portuguese Society for Bird Study is integrated in the campaign “Know the birds of your property”. 29 properties participated in this contest and 16 of them were actually visited.
Granja de São Pedro is a 2400 ha property inhabited by black storks, black wheatears, griffon vultures, harrier eagles, woodchat shrikes, among other bird species.
